Nigel Cabourn SS10 - Part 1

– Monday, January 18, 2010

Nigel Cabourn is a very nice Gentleman from England who has been in the Clothing industry for 40 years and been collecting vintage clothing for almost the same period of time. The first shipment of the collection is just in and one of the pieces is the Rangoon jacket (New Cameraman Coat) . A replica of the jacket worn by the photographer when Hilary and Tenzing were the first to ever set foot on the summit of Mount Everest. The other one is an UK-made, unconstructed cotton blazer and the third one a bag big enough to pack clothes for a month and a zipper wider than a Dior Homme-tie. Online soon with the rest of the collection.

Really like the first jacket, it has the look of a Stone Island field jacket with a bit more tailoring.

Not to be picky, but the above jacket is not the Cameraman Jacket. The jacket in question is the Rangoon jacket which is based on the Cameraman Jacket. However they seem to be very similar, but my guess (I have to guess as I haven´t seen the Rangoon yet) is that the top half of the Rangoon, made of beeswaxed cotton, is not made by Mackintosh which is the case with the real Cameraman jacket. That´s probably also one reason why the Rangoon is considerably cheaper than the the real Cameraman jacket.

Being a huge Cabourn fan myself and owning a number of his jackets, including the Cameraman, I just thought I had to set the facts straight... sorry for sounding so smug about it... :-)

That's correct. It is also called the "New Cameraman" jacket, at least according to my invoice so I thought it would be easier to tell the story this way. You don't have that many sentences on a blog to play with. But I will definitely change the name. Thanks

Most shops are indeed calling it the 'New Cameraman', so I'd be willing to bet either names are just fine. While we debate the name, we are forgetting that the jacket is beautiful.
